Culturally Sensitive Training

  • promotes increased cultural sensitivity and self-reflexivity/awareness through developing an understanding of families’ and our own identities and stories that influence us and our practice

  • explores our understanding of barriers that parents/carers may face, in relation to areas of difference, such as their age, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender and sexuality

  • helps normalise conversations with parents/carers around aspects of difference (Social GRACES) and builds practitioners’ confidence (through practical exercises and case studies) in direct work

  • Provides an opportunity to share resources within the Family Hubs professional early help community thereby reaching those families who may be seldom heard; and enhance practitioner knowledge with regards to reducing barriers and stigma for families in accessing services

  • The training group will then meet again for a further follow up day and half day reflective practice to share further learning and experiences of implementing the training in direct work

Natural Thinkers Training

Natural Thinkers is a programme that supports teachers and practitioners to connect children with nature. The programme builds a framework around what schools and settings are already doing in different areas of the curriculum. Their ethos is to empower teachers and practitioners to connect children to nature using a holistic approach from EYFS until Key Stage 2.

The training offers practitioners the opportunity to learn about the benefits of outdoor learning on children’s speech, wellbeing, and involvement. Practitioners will learn how to monitor children’s progress and to use a communication and language tool to assess if a child needs further support or a referral to the speech and language team.

PEEP Learning Together

PEEP Learning Together Programme is an evidence-based programme designed to support parents and carers in enhancing their children early learning and development through everyday activities. Croydon Family Hubs have put this training together so practitioners who wish to deliver this programme can undertake this free accredited training to effectively engage families and foster positive outcomes for young children.
