The National Emergency of Child Neglect

27 Jun 2025

NSPCC Highlights Urgent Need for Action on Child Neglect

New data from the NSPCC Helpline reveals that in 2024/25, nearly 18,000 contacts were made by adults concerned about child neglect—accounting for a quarter of all Helpline calls. Neglect remains the top reason for public referrals, underscoring the need for a national neglect strategy with stronger prevention, identification, and response measures.

Is Your Team Equipped to Spot and Respond to Neglect?

Neglect is often complex and requires local, context-specific understanding. The CSCP offers bespoke Child Neglect Training, designed using real case studies from Croydon safeguarding practice reviews.

This ensures professionals can:

  • Recognise subtle signs of neglect in Croydon’s unique context.

  • Apply local multi-agency procedures effectively.

  • Take timely, evidence-based action to protect children.
